OZS plans and produces annual fundraising events held on Zoo grounds. Plus, OZS hosts the Capture the Wild Zoo Photo Contest to help produce a colorful ZooFriends calendar distributed to ZooFriends members each winter.
Family Fun Night
Membership has its benefits! Family Fun Night, usually held in late summer or early fall, celebrates ZooFriends supporters and provides a members-only evening at the Zoo with live entertainment, Zoo Keeper chats, children’s activities and more. Admission is free for current ZooFriends members.
Ostrich Egg Breakfast
All ages enjoy the most important meal of the day – breakfast – at the Zoo! Pancakes, scrambled hens’ eggs, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice, plus the most anticipated menu item, cooked-to-order omelets with all the fixin’s. Zoobilation
Zoobilation, the largest fundraiser for the Oklahoma City Zoo hosted by OZS, is planned for Friday, June 20, 2008, from 7 – 11 p.m. on Zoo grounds. Zoobilation is an all-adult party that features tasty treats from local restaurants, live entertainment, Zoo keeper chats and a wild silent auction. Major Zoo projects have been funded from this event including the Rosser Conservation Education Center, Zoo FUNd for Kids educational outreach program, the Great EscAPE world-premier primate exhibit, and the ExpLorikeet Adventure walk-through aviary exhibit. This year’s proceeds will support a new and improved Children’s Zoo scheduled to debut in 2009. Tickets are $75 per person and all attendees must be 21 years or older. Capture the Wild Zoo Photo Contest
Every summer, photographers of all ages and skill levels are invited to snap a shot of the Zoo’s colorful collection of more than 2,000 animals and thousands of plants. Professional photographers, graphic designers and animal experts take on the difficult task of awarding winners in each youth and adult category. The annual awards ceremony recognizes each winner and displays all photo entries at the Oklahoma City Zoo’s Rosser Conservation Education Center. Years past have produced more than 600 photos by more than 200 participants. Each winter following the contest debuts the ZooFriends calendar, which displays photos from the contest and provides a token of appreciation to each ZooFriends member. Current ZooFriends members receive the calendar as a gift, but additional calendars are available for $10 each, add $1 for shipping. Click here to purchase a calendar.
