2008 Capture the Wild Photo Contest

 


 

 

Enter your best photos in the OKC Zoo Photo Contest!

 

ENTRIES ACCEPTED JULY 14 – AUGUST 13, 2008.

 

Each summer, the Oklahoma Zoological Society hosts the “Capture the Wild Zoo Photography Contest” and requests photos of mammals, landscapes, reptiles, birds and more from the OKC Zoo. More than 650 photos have been entered in previous year contests from amateur and professional photographers.

 

If you are interested in entering photos, but could use some photography pointers, sign up for a “Walk-About” Workshop with a professional photographer at the OKC Zoo. Photographers walk the Zoo with participants, giving tips on photographing the Zoo’s diverse animals and plants. Workshops are FREE and available from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday June 29th, Saturday July 5th, and Saturday July 12th. Reservations are required and space is limited, so reserve your spot today in a Walk-About Workshop by calling (405) 427-2461, ext. 618.

 

The photos are categorized and judged in both youth and adult divisions, with a separately judged contest for Zoo employee entries. A reception will be held at the Oklahoma City Zoo’s Rosser Conservation Education Building on August 24th at 2:30 p.m., with an Awards Ceremony following at 3:00 p.m.

 

After the contest, several of the photos, including the year’s winners, comprise the annual ZooFriends calendar. The full-color calendar is one of the benefits of ZooFriends membership and sells in the OKC Zoo gift shop to help support special projects and needs at the OKC Zoo.

RULES:

  1. Photos must be taken at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
  2. All photos will become the property of the Oklahoma Zoological Society for publication and promotion. Photo credit will be given where available.
  3. Entries submitted by Zoo and OZS employees are eligible for the separately judged employee photo contest. Winning employee photos will be featured on a poster insert in the annual ZooFriends calendar.
  4. Entries must be received between July 14 and August 13, 2008.
  5. Late entries will not be accepted.

 

FORMAT FOR SUBMISSION:

  1. Photos must be 8”x10” and mounted on regular (not foam filled) mat board. Mats must be no larger than 10”x12”.
  2. Four (4) entries accepted per photographer.
  3. Two (2) entry forms must be submitted per picture. Forms can be copied. Secure one copy to back of mat & one to back of photo.
  4. Deliver entries to the ZooFriends Membership office or mail to: ZooFriends, P.O. Box 18424, Oklahoma City, OK 73154.
  5. In addition to a hard copy submission, a CD with your photos is encouraged, but not required. Photo formats should be 300 DPI TIFF or JPEG files.
